Mrs. Bridges died Saturday evening November 5, 2011 in NHC of Cookeville following complications after suffering a stroke earlier in the week. She was a very active, vibrant lady prior to her sudden illness. She was born April 1, 1920 in Monterey, Tennessee to the late Grover Houston and Cora Melvia Ledbetter Gill. Having lost both parents as small children, she and her brother were raised by their paternal grandmother, Fannie Sadler Gill. She complete 12 years of elementary and high school at Monterey Public School and was a member of the 1938 graduating class. After high school, she attended Draughon's Business School in Nashville, and returned to Putnam County where she worked for several local attorneys including her cousin John W. Gill in Monterey. In 1958 she moved to the Nashville area to begin a career in Federal Service. Her first assignment was as a clerk-typist for the United States Air Force in Smyrna. She next served with the U.S. Department of Labor, Wage-Hour Division for nine years. In 1973, she transferred to the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Middle District of Tennessee where she advanced to Deputy Clerk and was named Supervisor where she retired in 1994. "Great-Great" as known to her family leaves a legacy of love and service. She was a mainstay to her family and friends and lived her life with grace and peace. Not having children of her own, her niece and nephew and their families became like her children. She made life-long relationships that spanned several generations and was known for her care for others, generosity and sense of humor. Since returning to Cookeville in 2004 she attended Collegeside Church of Christ. She enjoyed knitting, spending time with friends, and watching her great-niece, Molly Heady play basketball first at Clarkrange High School and now at TTU. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Gary Bridges and her brother Lemuel Houston "Tater" Gill.
