A Funeral Mass for Gregory Franklin Nead, 83, of Cookeville, will be held Tuesday, July 7, 2015 at 1 p.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. Father Chad Puthoff will officiate. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 11 a.m. until service time at the church. He died Monday, June 29, 2015 at Highlands Medical Center in Sparta. He was born June 15, 1932 in Milwaukee, WI to the late Frank Albert and Lucy Beaupre Nead. Greg attended Messmer Catholic High School and Marquette University in Milwaukee. He served his country as a member of the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. He owned a HVAC co. and worked in property management while living in Wisconsin. Greg continued serving his country and community when he moved to Cookeville in 1996. He was an active member of the St Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church and was a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus. A member of the American Legion for 50 years, he served as Post Commander of American Legion Post 135. He was especially honored and proud to serve as a member of the Veterans Honor Guard, serving as commander and rendering military honors for funeral services for over 1840 veterans. He was also a member of the Cookeville Breakfast Rotary Club and the Cookeville Corvette Club. Other interests included family, corvettes, and building model aircraft and ships. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his second wife, Bernice Klug; brother, Doug Nead; and by a granddaughter, Sarah Miller. Mr. Nead is survived by his wife of 24 years, Mary Beth Clausing Nead (whom he married July 1990 in Holy Cross, WI); four sons, Steven (Sally) Nead, Brian (Amy) Nead, Craig Nead, Dean (Sharon) Nead, four daughters, LeeAnn Baun (fiancée Ron Sekulski), Monica (Woody) Woods, Julianna Presswood, and Janine (Dave) Shore, fourteen grandchildren, nine great grandchildren; sister Janet (Alan) Metzger, stepchildren; Cassandra (Mark Kurtzer) Lehnhardt, Kristopher Lehnhardt and Beth (Andrew) Priebe. Memorial contributions may be made to the Veterans Honor Guard, 370 South Lowe #212, Cookeville, TN 38501 and/or the American Legion Post 135, PO Box 1321, Cookeville, TN 38503.
