Geraldine "Geri" Terry Ramsay, 92, died Sunday, September 22, 2013, at home in Flint, TX after a sudden illness. She was born November 22, 1920 to Thomas Jasper Terry and Margaret Ethel Brown Terry. She graduated from Tennessee Tech University, Cookeville, TN, in 1942, and met and married her life-long love Bob Norwood Ramsay in 1943. Geri was devoted to her family and the church. She served faithfully alongside her Baptist minister husband for 40 years in churches in Tennessee, Texas and Mississippi, and traveled with him on mission trips to Japan, Korea, India, the Philipines, Italy and England. In her later years of ministry in Tupelo, Mississippi, she enjoyed teaching a Sunday Couples' Class at Calvary Baptist Church. She was also an active member of the Tupelo Peripatetic Reading Club. Geri, or "Gerimom" to her grand and great grandchildren, was passionate, generous, and forgiving. Her love and dedication for family and church, and passion for reading, politics, argument and words will continue to serve as inspiration that will be forever remembered and cherished. Survivors include her children, Dr. Sarah Jane "Sam" Ramsay of Flint, TX, Jere Robert "Bob" Ramsay of Hattiesburg, MS, Janice Lee "Jan" Ramsay of Orlando, FL, and James Bradford "Brad" Ramsay (Karen) of Fairfax, VA; four grandchildren Ashley Davis (Jeff) of Winter Park, FL, Catherine Beard (Jon) of Virginia Beach, VA, David Ramsay of Boston, MA, Tracy Ramsay of London, England, and six great-grandchildren, Ramsay, Emilie, Sally Ann and J.R. Davis, Gusta and Millie Beard; sister, Sara "Sarie" Stewart (Clarence), niece Gerry "Cissy" White (Frank), nephew Dr. Jack Stewart (Sarah), friends and caregivers Frederica Mack and Jane Henson, and "adopted daughter" Rosie Davis. Preceding her in death were her husband of 54 years, Dr. Bob N. Ramsay, daughter Margaret Melissa Barnett, son-in-law James Crawley Barnett and niece Lisa Stewart. Pallbearers will be Bob Ramsay, Brad Ramsay, Jack Stewart, David Ramsay, Jim Ramsay and Frank White. Visitation will be held at Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home, Cookeville, TN, from 5-8:00pm on Saturday, September 28. Private graveside service and burial will be in Crest Lawn Memorial Cemetery on Sunday, September 29, for family and close friends, and with Dr. James Madison Ramsay officiating. Memorials may be made to the Calvary Baptist Church, 501 W. Main St., Tupelo, MS 38804. "A merry heart doeth good like a medicine." Proverbs 17:22 … Her heart was indeed merry, and she accomplished much that was good.
