Gerald Wayne Whitaker

Funeral Services for Mr. Gerald Wayne Whitaker, age 75, of Cookeville, will be Sunday, July 13, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Dyer Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the New Home Cemetery in Boma Community. The family will receive friends Saturday, July 12, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. till 8:00 p.m. and again on Sunday from 11:00 a.m. until time of the service. Mr. Whitaker passed away Friday, July 11, 2014 at his home. He was born February 24, 1939 in Jackson County TN to the late James R. Whitaker and Elsie Mae Gaw Whitaker. Gerald was a member of the Cookeville Church of God, and worked as an electrician for fifty seven years and was with Lakeland Electric over thirty of those years. He loved football, especially the UT Vols! To keep his mind active he enjoyed crossword puzzles, and being involved in his church. Grandchildren were the joy of his life. Gerald is survived by his wife of thirty nine years, Christine Nixon Whitaker; a son, John Whitaker (Cindy) of Crossville and a daughter, Pamela Holloway of Cookeville. In addition, Mr. Whitaker is survived by two grandchildren; Kayla Nicole Randolph and Quinn Holloway. He is also survived by one sister, Mary Alice Heady (Harold) of Gainesboro TN and one brother, Bobby Joe Whitaker (Linda) of Shelbyville TN. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and a large family as well as many friends. In addition to his parents, Mr. Whitaker was preceded in death by two brothers; Tommy Lewis and Jimmy Charles Whitaker, and one sister; Wanda Haney. He was also preceded by two brothers-in-law; Charles Ralph Nixon and Ardell Nixon, and two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Garrison and Lois Vernell Kelly. Pallbearers will be family and friends. Bro. Dwight Henry and Bro. Johnny Fox will be conducting the services.
