George Ronald Boles

June 25, 1942 — September 20, 2024

George Ronald Boles, known affectionately to friends and family as Ron, passed away suddenly on September 20, 2024, at his residence in Cookeville, TN. Born on June 25, 1942, in Covington, KY, Ron's life was marked by his unwavering kindness and the loving relationships he nurtured throughout his 82 years.

Ron grew up in the warm embrace of his family in Knoxville, the son of Raymond Leslie Boles and Catherine Louise Simon Boles. After his graduation, Ron proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, a period of his life that instilled in him a sense of discipline, civic pride, and duty.

Ron went on to earn a degree in business from East Tennessee State University in 1966. His educational journey laid the foundation for a successful career and the development of a strong work ethic that would define his professional life. He had a lengthy career as an insurance adjustor, a role in which he was known for his fairness and attention to detail. His colleagues remember him as a man of integrity, always willing to lend a helping hand or share a word of encouragement.

Family was a cornerstone of Ron's happiness. His children, Randy (Jenny Bennett) and Lisa McLaughlin (Michael), will carry forward his legacy of love and kindness. His wife, Mary Elizabeth Boles, who was his partner in every sense. His brother, Gary Boles (Vicky), will cherish the memories of the bond they shared.

Ron was a doting grandfather to Vivian Donn Boles, Madeline Simone McLaughlin, Sophia Jean McLaughlin, and True Hensley McLaughlin, each of whom brought immense happiness to his life. Ron’s special friends include Nancy Williams, Darlene Hensley, Holly Vittettoe, and Carolyn Ehninger, and longtime dear neighbors in Knoxville. Preceding him in death were his parents, Raymond Leslie Boles and Catherine Louise Simon Boles, and his brother, Raymond Boles. They have now welcomed him into eternal peace.

Ron's interests and hobbies were a reflection of his love for life and community. His grandchildren were the light of his life, and he took immense pride in their accomplishments, especially Vivian's back-to-back state softball championships with Farragut High School, Madeline and Sophia’s dance and sports, and True’s football team. A longtime fan of Vivian in softball and T-ball, Ron's influence on young athletes extended well beyond his family.

He was a dedicated Tennessee Volunteers fan, and his passion for sports was infectious. Ron loved the Great Smoky Mountains and in his early retirement he was known to enjoy a good fishing spot. Those who knew Ron would describe him as a loving and kind man, whose presence was a source of comfort and whose actions were a testament to his character. His warm smile and gentle nature will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A memorial service to celebrate Ron's life will be held at 11 am on Saturday, October 5, at Cookeville First Presbyterian Church. Friends and family are invited to gather for visitation from 10-11 am at the church, where they can share memories and honor the life of a man who was truly loved by many.
