Genetta Irby

Funeral services for Mrs. Genetta Pearl Irby, 87 of Cookeville, will be held Saturday July 12 at 1 p.m. in the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Interment will follow in West Cemetery in the Burgess Falls Community. Rev. Tim Frank will officiate. Mrs. Irby died suddenly Wednesday morning July 9, 2014 at her home. She was born January 16, 1927 in Putnam County, Tennessee to the late David Crockett "D.C." and Carrie Pennington McBride. Mrs. Irby was a member of Stevens Street Baptist Church where she was active in the Care Center Ministry. She was well-known by family and friends for her sewing, quilting, gardening and beautiful flowers. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Howard Irby (who died February 21, 2003); daughter, Barbara Tenpenny; grandson, Michael Dickey; two sisters, Mary Ellen Farley and Minnie Peek; and two brothers, Daniel McBride and Tommy McBride. Survivors include her daughter, Lois Dickey of Pendleton, IND; three grandchildren, Shelley Tenpenny, Jerry Douglas Dickey, and Bobby Dickey; two great grandchildren, Tyler Netherton and Caleb Netherton; brother and sister-in-law Keith (Cora) McBride of Cookeville; and four sisters and brothers-in-law, Faye and Joe Scott, Glenda and Harold Randolph all of Cookeville, Sue and Herman Boring of Turtletown, TN and Ruth and Harold Farley of Holbert, IND. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Mrs. Irby's family will receive friends Friday from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. and Saturday from 11 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home.
