Gaylon Presley

Funeral services for Mr. Gaylon Edward Presley, age 90 of Cookeville, will be held Tuesday, December 3, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at the Cookeville chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Bro. Buddy Johnson and David Fox will officiate. Interment will follow at Crest Lawn Cemetery. His family will receive friends Monday evening from 4:00pm until 6:00pm and again Tuesday from 12pm until service time at the funeral home. He was born June 12, 1929 in the Flynn's Lick community of Jackson Co. TN to the late Hallie Locke and Fred Presley, Sr. He was a graduate of Central High School in Cookeville where he played football. Gaylon worked as an insurance agent with the Home Beneficial Insurance Agency in Cookeville. Gaylon's life was one of service and generosity to others. He was most passionate about mission work and travels with his church. He made over 100 mission trips, including to Nicaragua and Africa, but most frequently to the Sans Blas Islands, Panama where his work help establish churches. He was a member and deacon of Jefferson Ave. Church of Christ where he attended for over 70 years. An avid outdoorsman, Gaylon enjoyed bird hunting, raising German short haired bird dogs and working with horses and cattle. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Theda ‘Jane' White Presley; son, James Edward Presley; brother, Fred Presley, Jr.; and sisters, Alice Tudor, Lalloween Breeding and LaValla Edgington. He is survived by his wife of 15 years, Frances Bumbalough Presley; sister, LaVonna Phy of Algood, numerous nieces and nephews; and by a devoted granddaughter, Sarah Bumbalough. Gaylon's legacy also includes the foster children that he took in and cared for. The family wishes to express a special thanks to his devoted caregiver, Gail Hassley. Sam Brown, David Edgington, John Edgington, Bo Perez, Steve Martin and Jerry White will serve as pallbearers.
