Gary Spires

Funeral services for Mr. Gary Arthur Spires, age 73, of Madison and formerly of Cookeville, will be held Tuesday November 27 at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home with Rev. Ryan Barnhart officiating. Interment will follow in Phillips Cemetery. His family will receive friends Monday from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. and Tuesday from 10 a.m. until service time at Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Gary died Thursday November 22, 2018 in TriStar Skyline Medical Center in Nashville, surrounded by his family. He was born Wednesday May 30, 1945 in Pontiac, Illinois to the late Richard Warren and Sylvia Mae Jordan Spires. Gary was a member and former Elder at Post Oak Presbyterian Church and an avid Ham Radio Operator. He also enjoyed photography as a hobby. He graduated from Illinois Central College in Peoria, IL and attended Eureka University in Eureka, IL. He worked at Caterpillar Tractor in Peoria, IL and was a retired engineer with Fleetguard in Cookeville with 23 years of service. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard J. Spires and David Spires. Survivors include his wife, Claudia Richards Spires (whom he married July 10, 1970 in Eureka, IL); daughter, Rebekah (Sam) Kalchuk of Gallatin, TN; two sons, Dr. Ross (Gena) Spires of Bluffton, SC, and Daniel Spires of Old Hickory, TN; and four grandchildren, Cameron Kalchuk, Carter, Lola, and Sosie Spires. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Post Oak Presbyterian Church, 1174 Post Oak Road, Cookeville, TN 38506.
