Funeral Services for Gary Lamonte Askins, age 62 of Cookeville, will be held Tuesday, July 12, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the Colonial View Baptist Church with burial to follow in the West Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday evening, July 11, 2011 from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Dyer Funeral Home. The family will again receive friends on Tuesday, July 12, 2011, from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m., the time of service, at Colonial View Baptist Church. Gary passed away on Friday, July 8, 2011, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was born April 24, 1949 in Huntsville, AL to the late Joseph L. Askins and Frances Hopkins Askins. Gary was an avid sportsman, horseman, and member of the TN Quarter Horse Association. He was of the Baptist faith and attended Poplar Grove Baptist Church. Mr. Askins is survived by two daughters, Leigh Askins Hayes of Nashville and Anna Marie Askins of Cookeville, also survived by the mothers of his children, Reba Hayes of Huntsville AL and Wendy Askins of Cookeville. In addition, he is also survived by one granddaughter, Hannah Leigh Smith, of Nashville, one brother, John Askins, of Nashville, and a very special friend, Brenda Hall, of Cookeville. Pallbears are Ronnie Mayberry,Willard Vaughn, Ryan Moore, Adam West, Keith Chester,Scott Matlock, Tyler Dunn, Chad Blair, John Ford, and Roy Bennett. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Frances Askins. The family has requested memorial contributions be made to the charity of your choice in memory of Gary L. Askins.
