Funeral services for Mr. Freddie Maxwell, 85 of Algood will be held Saturday March 4 at 3 p.m. in the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Interment with Military Honors will follow in Paran Cemetery in Overton County. Rev. Brian Hickey will officiate. The family will receive friends Saturday from 1 p.m. until service time at the funeral home. Freddie died Thursday March 2, 2017 at 7:37 a.m. in the Signature Health Care of Putnam County in Algood. He was born December 31, 1931 in Putnam County, Tennessee to the late Eugene Estel and Clara Keathley Maxwell. Freddie was a deacon and member of Washington Avenue Baptist Church for over 35 years. Freddie was a graduate of Algood High School and earned his BS Degree in Education from Tennessee Tech University. Following his graduation from Tech and Military Service in the Army, he taught Algebra and coached basketball at Algood High School for one year. He then began a career with the U. S. Postal Service that spanned over 32 years. He served as Branch Superintendent of the Algood Post Office, he began a second career in Banking, serving as Vice President with Peoples Bank and Trust in Cookeville for five years. In 2002 he was appointed Algood City Administrator and served the City of Algood for eight years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Kenneth Maxwell, Melvin Maxwell and W. F. Maxwell. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Betty Lou Roach Maxwell; whom he married April 11, 1958 in Algood; daughter and son-in-law, Janella and Jimmy Coffelt; and grandson, James Maxwell "Max" Coffelt all of Cookeville; sister, Lillian Newport of Cordova, TN; six nieces and nephews.
