Fred B. "Red" Haney

Funeral Services for Mr. Fred B. (Red) Haney, age 90, of Cookeville, will be Sunday, January 25, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the Cookeville Free Will Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Cookeville City Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday, January 24, 2015 from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Cookeville Free Will Baptist Church and again on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until time of the service. Mr. Haney was born October 7, 1924 in Overton County TN to the late Isaac (Big Ike) Seth Haney and Mary Poston Haney. Fred loved life and loved people, he never met a stranger, and always had a very positive attitude toward life and people. He loved serving and helping others and repaired plumbing and electrical problems for many. Mr. Haney was a proud veteran of World War II, serving in the European Theater with the 165th Engineers. He retired from the maintenance department of Tennessee Tech University in 1984 after 34 years of service, and worked part time at Dyer Funeral Home for the last several years. Fred was a member of the Cookeville Free Will Baptist Church for at least 50 years and always felt like they couldn’t have church if he wasn’t there. Fred was married to Gladys Roberts Haney for 52 years before her passing in 1998 and is survived by one son, Ken (wife Anita) Haney of Cookeville, three grandchildren; Lianne Perkins (husband Kelly) of Franklin TN, Eric Haney (wife Missy) of Cookeville, and Ben Haney (wife Katie) of Lebanon MO. In addition, Fred is survived by eleven great-grandchildren; Christian Perkins, Ellis, Carson and John Haney, Savannah Lewis, Layla, Titan, Anora, Vaughan, Scarlet and Phoenix Haney. In 2000 Fred married Myrtle Dean Brown and they enjoyed life together for 11 years before her passing in 2011. He is survived by two step sons; Billy (wife Lee) Brown of Cookeville and Tommy (wife Leigh Ann) Brown of Mt. Juliet, three step grandchildren; Amanda Prentice (husband Matthew) of Whitehouse TN, Alex and Sarah Brown, both of Mt. Juliet as well as two step great-grandchildren, Carter and Charlie Prentice. Mr. Haney is also survived by one brother, Lester Haney of Dayton OH and three sisters; Lula Young, Veachel Pond (husband Bud), and Delma Mayberry (husband Charles) all of Cookeville. Red is also survived by many nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters in law and friends. In addition to his parents, and his wives, Gladys Irene Roberts Haney, and Myrtle Dean Brown Haney; Fred was also preceded in death by one brother, Garland Haney, one sister, Gladys Haney, eight brothers in law, Delbert Young and Jim Reeves, Carl Haney, Doyle and Toy Roberts, Arthur Allen, Cecil Harris and James Caruthers, as well as two sisters in law, Ruby Haney and Margaret Roberts. Pallbearers will be Eric Haney, Ben Haney, Kelly Perkins, Ricky Mayberry, Earl Harris, and Ronnie Young. Bro. Charles Cook and Bro. Ken Haney will be conducting the services.
