Frank McKenney Pointer Sr.

COOKEVILLE CHAPEL-Frank McKenney Pointer Sr., a cherished member of the Nashville community, passed away on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, at Alive Hospice in Nashville. Born on November 15, 1930, in Algood, Tennessee, Frank lived a life marked by service, dedication, and a lively spirit, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and humor.

An alumnus of the Tennessee Polytechnic Institute, now known as Tennessee Tech University, Frank earned his bachelor’s degree in Agriculture in 1956. He further showcased his commitment to service by enlisting in the Tennessee Army National Guard in 1959, culminating his military career as a Colonel upon retirement in 1988. His dedication to his country and community extended into a ten-year stint with the Tennessee Defense Force.

Frank was not only a soldier; he was also a successful businessman who owned Frank Pointer Insurance in Nashville, carving a respected place for himself within the insurance industry. His gregarious personality and quick wit endeared him to many, and his great memory and lively sense of humor remained a source of joy for family and friends alike. Known for his unwavering spirit of volunteerism, Frank was always quick to lend a helping hand to his family, friends, and neighbors. His love for children was evident in all his interactions, reflecting the warmth and positivity that he radiated. Many years were dedicated with Friday family dinners where Frank would spearhead cooking one of the following: every vegetable known to man with cornbread, spaghetti, SOS, beef and vegetable soup, chili, lasagna, or Fletcher’s pizza for family to rest, fill their bellies, and share their week while the TV show Blue Bloods played in the background.

An avid sports fan, Frank’s enthusiasm for the Atlanta Braves and Vanderbilt’s basketball teams brought him considerable joy, often igniting a spirited conversation among fellow fans.

Frank's lifelong commitment to his faith was evident through his longstanding membership at Pennington Fellowship Church since 1959 where he found community and fellowship. This connection shaped his character and provided him with countless opportunities to serve others.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Norman Pointer and Dorcas Moore Williams Pointer; his beloved wife, Paula Qualls Pointer; his son, Kenney Pointer; and his sisters, Mary Buck (Bill) and Nila Bryant (Jay). Frank's legacy, defined by service, laughter, and love, will endure in the hearts of those who knew him.

Frank is survived by his loving family, which includes his son, Kevin Pointer (Tracy); daughter, Karen Johnson (Chris); daughter-in-law, Lynn Pointer; grandchildren, Mac Pointer (Colleen), Claire Pointer-Jaeckel (Adam), Shannon Roll (Mike), Elliot Johnson (Aiyana), Kaitlin Werner (Erik), and Trevin Pointer; seven great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews who will cherish his memory.
