Ruby Faye Griggs, 73, of the Cherry Creek Community of White County died May 17, 2011 at Erlanger Health System in Chattanooga. Faye was adoringly referred to as "Momma"� and "Grammer"� by children and grandchildren. Faye was born August 8, 1937 in Folsomdale, Ky. to the late William Hershel and Frances Mae Story Huie. She worked 13 years at Coca-Cola Bottling of Cookeville, Tenn. She appropriated her remaining years to being a devoted housewife, mother and grandmother. She spent her spare time cultivating the flowers of her garden. She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Cookeville for 44 years, serving over 20 years ministering to children in the nursery. Faye led a life committed to the Lord and is now helping plant the gardens of Heaven. In addition to her parents, Faye was preceded in death by her brothers William Huie and Bob Powers. She is survived and loved by husband of 54 years, Edwin (Ed) Irle Griggs, professor emeritus of mechanical engineering at Tennessee Tech University,(whom she married May 3, 1957 in Fosalmdale, KY,) sons, James Randy Griggs and wife Dana, William Jeffrey Griggs and wife Amanda, and Edwin Michael Griggs and wife Cindy all of the Cherry Creek Community; nine grandchildren, Wesley, Candice, Jerred, Japheth, Sarah Kay, Will, Levi, Josie, and CallieAnna; sister Marie Wilkins and husband Tom; several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Friday May 20 at 11 a.m. at Cookeville First Baptist Church with Dr. Randall Adkisson, Dr. Gerald Stowe and Rev. Charles Hutchison officiating. Interment will follow in Griggs Family Cemetery in White County. Visitation will be held Thursday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home and Friday from 10 a.m. till service time at First Baptist Church. Pallbearers will be James Wesley Griggs, Jerred Ryan Griggs, Clint Thomas Ruth, Edwin Tobias Ruth, Brian Gregory Ruth, and John Robert Toy II. Memorial contributions may be made to Mission Fund at Cookeville First Baptist Church 18 South Walnut Street or the Care Center at Stevens Street Baptist Church 327 West Stevens Street both in Cookeville, TN 38501.
