Faith Parman Garner, a spirited and outspoken woman known for her zest for life, passed away on October 17, 2023, at the Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Born on June 24, 1944, in Nashville, TN, Faith was a beacon of strength, resilience and unwavering faith to all who knew her.
Faith, a proud graduate of Hillsboro High School's class of 1962, went on to attend David Lipscomb University and later graduated from Tennessee Technological University in 1965 as part of the first graduating class after it's name change from Tennessee Polytechnic University, a fact she wore as a badge of honor. Education was a cornerstone of Faith's life, and she dedicated herself to fostering a love of learning in others.
Her professional life reflected this passion as she started her career as a teacher at Dickson County School System. There she taught at Dickson Junior High and coached basketball, imparting knowledge and skills to countless students. Faith then became a claims adjustor for INA and CIGNA Insurance Companies, breaking barriers as the first female outside claims adjustor in Tennessee. After moving to Cookeville, she continued to impact young lives as a substitute teacher with the Putnam County School System.
Faith's vibrant personality was reflected in her interests and hobbies. She was a faithful member of Hillsboro Church of Christ while living in Nashville and later at Collegeside Church of Christ in Cookeville. Known for her outgoing and spunky nature, Faith never shied away from expressing her opinions and stood firm in her beliefs. Her infectious energy and warm spirit made her a cherished presence in her family and community.
Faith is survived by her loving mother, Edith Hogue Parman; her devoted daughter, Tammie (Matt) Wright; her adoring grandchildren, Spencer and Tyler Wright, and Brody (Maria) Whittaker. Faith also leaves behind her sister, Susan (John) Massey; her sister-in-law, Mary Parman; her nieces and nephews, Emily (Richard) McPhillips and Ben Massey; and her special family member, Eli Losh. Faith's legacy will also continue to live on through her several great nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her father, James Elijah Parman Jr.; her brother, James Elijah Parman III; and her nephew, James Elijah Parman IV.
A Memorial Service Celebrating Faith's Life will be at 11 a.m. Saturday October 28 at Collegeside Church of Christ. Bro. Mark McInteer will officiate. Her family will welcome friends Saturday from 9 a.m. until service time.
