Evelyn Frances Holladay

Funeral services for Mrs. Evelyn Frances Holladay, age 84, of Cookeville will be Friday, January 31th, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Dyer Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Friday from 11:00 a.m. until time of the service. Burial will be in the Crest Lawn Cemetery. Evelyn departed from this life Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. She was born April 2, 1929 in Dresden, TN. to the late Ivery Gatewood and Elmer Smith Gatewood. Evelyn loved her family, enjoyed cooking, reading books and working in her flowers. She recently learned to use a Kindle and found great pleasure in reading from it. Evelyn was a caring and compassionate lady who loved everyone she knew. She was retired from GTE after 38 years of faithful service. Ms. Holladay is survived her husband of 67 years, Harold Holladay; one daughter, Sherrie Leah (Jim) Newsom of Lebanon, TN; three grandchildren, Steven Douglas Newsom of Lebanon, TN, Michael Holladay of Florida and Michelle (Jason) Shaver of Vero Beach, FL, three great-grandchildren, Jason, Jacob and Jessica Shaver; Brothers, Harol B. Gatewood of Dresden, TN, and Larry (Cheyrl) Gatewood. Evelyn also leaves behind a host of friends and family. Mrs. Holladay was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Marsha Faye Holladay; three sisters, Nell Winstead, Leona M. Adams and Valda Myers; one brother, James Gatewood and a grandson, James (Jimmy) Newsom III. Bro. Jeremiah Tatum and Bro. Larry Bates will officiate the service.
