Evelyn Bynum

Graveside services and interment for Evelyn Brent Bynum, 89 of Cookeville, will be held Saturday, June 2nd at 10 a.m. at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens in Goodlettsville. Rev. Gary Smith will officiate. The family will receive friends Friday, June 1st from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Mrs. Bynum passed away Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at Bailey Manor in Cookeville. She was born February 4, 1929 in Millersville, TN, in 1929, to the late Ulysses S. Brent and Bertha Atnip Brent. Upon graduating from White House High School in 1946, she went to work at National Life in Nashville. During the 1950s she worked in Washington D.C. for the Coast Guard and in Nashville with an accounting firm. She met her husband, Bill J. Bynum, in Millersville where they married in 1958. Although her life centered around her role as wife, mother, and grandmother, she was also an asset to her husband in his insurance agency in Cookeville, where they moved in 1967. She continued to operate the business after his death in 1990. Mrs. Bynum was a member of Life Church and loved the many people she fellowshipped with during her 50 years of attending there. She will be remembered by her family and friends as a lady of elegance, sweetness, and grace who loved God, His Word, and family. Survivors include a son, Brent (Debra) Bynum; daughter, Shelly (Steve) Forgey; seven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren; a sister, Ida V. Brent Olson of Redlands, California, and many much-loved nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, J.D., Charles, and A.J.; and sisters, Thelma Smith, Dorothy Mayfield, Lucile Tate, and Myrtle Smith. In lieu of flowers, gifts to the Cookeville Pregnancy Clinic, Heart of the Cumberland, or Teen Challenge of the Upper Cumberland are encouraged.
