Funeral services for Evan Chase McCanless, age 27 of Cookeville will be held Sunday March 19 at 2 p.m. at Jefferson Avenue Church of Christ with Buddy Johnson and David Fox officiating. Interment will follow in Cookeville City Cemetery. Evan's family will receive friends Saturday from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home and Sunday from 12 noon until service time at the church. Evan died suddenly Thursday afternoon March 16, 2017 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident on I-40 in Wilson County. He was born January 15, 1990 in Memphis, Tennessee to Phillip Sterling and Hazel Marie Stover McCanless of Cookeville. Evan was a life-long member of Jefferson Avenue Church of Christ. He was a 2008 graduate of Cookeville High School; attended Tennessee Tech and East TN State University; and was a graduate of Southeast Lineman Training School in Trenton, Georgia. He was a lineman with Groves Electric Company in Murfreesboro. Evan was an avid U. T. Football fan; loved kayaking, snowboarding, fishing, skeet shooting, and working out. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Sterling McCanless and maternal grandparents, Charles and Goldie Bridgeman Stover. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his paternal grandmother, Patrenia "Pat" Phillips McCanless of Cookeville; sister, Lorren (Nick) Jones of Johnson City, TN; uncles, Greg (Lisa) McCanless of Boise, ID., and Scott McCanless of Cookeville; aunts, Rita (Harry) Freitag of Gainesboro, Linda Beaty of Cookeville, and Margaret (Roger) Lewis of Clarkrange; several cousins and extended family members. Evan is also survived by his girlfriend, Samantha Cassetty. Pallbearers will be Jason Beaty, Brian Crabtree, David Lane, Michael Lane, Jason Steward, Mathieu West, Kyle Wilson, and Coy Jackson. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to The Veterans Honor Guard c/o Tom Serwan 370 S. Lowe Ave Cookeville, TN 38501.
