Funeral services for Mrs. Eva Nell Tays McCoy, 87 of Nashville and a former long-time resident of the Calfkiller Community near Monterey will be held Thursday May 2 at 3 pm in the Chapel of Horner Funeral Home in Monterey. Interment will follow in Bohannon Cemetery in the Calfkiller Community. Rev. Benton Flatt will officiate. Mrs. McCoy died Saturday evening April 27, 2013 in Alive Hospice of Nashville. She was born September 26, 1925 in Monterey, Tennessee to the late Delbert Haskel and Louella Walker Tays and lost her mother within a month of her birth. One year later she and her siblings gained a wonderful second mother in Lillie Mae Walker Tays who loved them and their father very much all of her life. Eva Nell grew up in the Calfkiller Community and attended Calfkiller and Monterey Schools and was a lifelong member of the Verble Baptist Church. In 1943 upon graduation Eva Nell left for Victorville, California with her best friend Ruth Sutton to work in the war effort as Aircraft Sheet Metal Mechanic (as Rosie the riveter). A year or two later Eva Nell came back to Tennessee to work in Oak Ridge. After that she relocated to Dayton, Ohio where she met Don Dale McCoy her future husband. They returned to live at her family farm in the Calfkiller Community in 1970. She was a retired Job Service Interviewer with the former Tennessee Department of Employment Security for the State of Tennessee. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Don McCoy; two sisters, Estelle Garrett and Clara Jackson, and her brother, Clarence Tays, SR. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Paul Holland of Nashville; grandchildren, Angela (David) Short and David (Mistee) Silvey; great grandchildren, Carter, Caroline, and Jackson Short and Olivia Silvey as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Honorary Pallbearers will be Clarence Tays JR, Paul Walker, Johnny Tays, and Jessie Short. Active Pallbearers will be Sam Tays, Harold Garrett, Jeff Walker, Lee Liggett, Carter Short, and David Short. Mrs. McCoy"�s family will receive friends Thursday from 1 PM until service time at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Verble Baptist Church by contacting the funeral home or to Alive Hospice 1718 Patterson Street Nashville, TN 37203.
