Eudelle Newport

A graveside service and interment for Mrs. Ruby Eudelle Newport, age 96 of Cookeville, will be held Friday September 30 at 11 a.m. at Crest Lawn Cemetery. Bro. Buddy Johnson will officiate. Visitation will follow the service at the cemetery. She died Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at her residence. She was born January 23, 1920 in Granville to the late Edward Cleve and Laura Pippin Billingsley. She attended school in Smith County and earned Bachelors and Masters degree from Tennessee Polytechnic Institute (now Tennessee Tech University). She was employed as the Director of Parole and Probation with the State of Tennessee, a job well suited for her strict but kind nature. She was a longtime member of Collegeside Church of Christ. She enjoyed daily golf outings with friends and family and was an avid bridge player. Her excellent cooking and beautiful paintings were enjoyed by many people. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of over 65 years, Bethel Newport; a brother, John A. Billingsley; and by sisters, Estelle Woods and Ora Lee Billingsley. She is survived by her sons, Jerry Newport and wife Karen of Cookeville, Alan Newport and and wife Rhona of Collierville; grandchildren, Casey (Micki) Newport, Patrick (Melanie) Newport, Michael (Amy) Newport and Chris Newport; great grandchildren, Ava and Henry Newport; and by her lifelong and dear friend Rosemary Foutch. Mrs. Newport's family wishes to express their gratitude to Highland Rim Home Health, Dr. Carolyn Ross & staff, Caris Hospice, and to her dedicated caretakers- Sarah Smith, Crystal Romines, Thelma Ryan, Donita Henry, Judy Romines, Sherry Carter, Carolyn Allen and Kathy Davis- for the loving and dedicated care given to their mother.
