Esther Dunn

Mrs. Esther Estella Dunn, age 91 of Cookeville, went to be with her Heavenly Father on Saturday June 26, 2021 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. A private graveside service and interment for immediate family was held Thursday, July 1st at Boiling Springs Cemetery. Pastor Gerald Taylor officiated. She was born April 1, 1930 in Cressona, PA to the late Joseph Hooker Starr and Naomi Sophia Eifert Starr. Mrs. Dunn along with her late husband Jessie “Ed” operated Dunn's Gulf Service Station on the square in Cookeville from 1963 to 1993. She also helped her sons operate Dunn's Willow Tree BP Service Station from 1993 to 1999 before retiring. After retiring, she found great joy in volunteering for Cookeville Regional Medical Center at the hospital gift shop where she tirelessly dedicated over 7,000 hours of service. She and her late husband attended Friendship United Methodist Church. Mrs. Dunn enjoyed gardening but especially growing flowers. She loved native wildflowers most of all. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Jessie Edward "Ed" Dunn; sister, Hilda Swisher; and by brothers, David Starr and Richard Starr. She is survived by a daughter, Nancy Dunn; sons, Tim and wife Kathy Dunn, Jeff and wife Ginger Dunn, all of Cookeville and Randy and wife Pam Dunn; of Algood; ten grandchildren, Joyelle Hill (Heath) Hudson of Cookeville, Wesley (Leigha) Hill of Durango, CO, Sawyer (Ellen) Hill of Maryville, TN, Houston (Amanda) Hill of Kodak, TN, Jessah (Cody) Hatfield of Hendersonville, TN, Tyler (Anna) Dunn of Cookeville, Tanner Dunn of Nashville, Caleb Dunn of Nashville, Ashley Dunn of Beaufort, NC and David Dunn of Yellowstone National Park, WY; ten great-grandchildren Eli, Isabelle and Noah Hudson of Cookeville, Jaxon and Rennon Hill of Durango, CO, Deacon and Caroline Hill of Maryville, TN, Kennedy and Asher Hill of Kodak, TN, and Charlotte Hatfield of Hendersonville, TN; a sister, Evelyn Hale of Anaheim, CA; and by a special friend and neighbor, Janice Mitchell. Her grandchildren served as pallbearers. Memorial contributions are suggested to be made to Boiling Springs Cemetery Fund, C/O Clayburn Dunn, 5675 Fanchers Mill Rd., Sparta,TN 38583.
