Emma Jo Dillon

July 7, 1931 — April 26, 2024

RICKMAN-In loving memory of Mrs. Emma Jo (Kennedy) Dillon, who passed away peacefully on April 26, 2024, at her home in Rickman, Tennessee. Born on July 7, 1931, in Overton County, Tennessee, Emma’s life was a testament to the power of love, friendship, and family.

Emma was the heart of her family. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 51 years, O.C. “Pat” Dillon; her parents, Cosby and Enna Eldridge Kennedy; her sister Claudine Smith; her brother Charles Kennedy; and her infant sister, Geneva Kennedy. Left to honor her memory are her cherished daughter, Phyllis Goolsby of Cookeville; her grandson, Andrew Goolsby and his wife Allison; her granddaughter, Emily Bennett and her husband Justin; and her precious great-grandchildren, Dylan and Drew Goolsby and Grayson and Sutton Bennett. Emma is also survived by her sister-in-law, Ellen Kennedy, and a host of nieces and nephews, all of whom were touched by her kindness and warmth.

A proud graduate of Rickman High School, Emma embarked on a fulfilling career journey, beginning as a secretary at the former Botany Shirt Factory. Her path led her to become the store manager at the Russell Stover Candy Outlet in Cookeville, where her dedication, warmth, and genuine care endeared her to her customers and colleagues alike. Emma’s personality and generous spirit left a mark on all who crossed her path. She believed in working hard and had a strong dedication to her career.

Beyond her professional achievements, Emma Jo’s life was adorned with diverse interests and passions. An avid collector of teapots, her home was a gallery to show her treasured collection. She adored cooking shows, finding joy in shows that showcased Southern recipes. She loved to ride around the farm and check the cows with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Emma loved to listen to gospel music. Alongside her late husband, Emma was a dedicated member of the Oak Hill Church, finding solace and community in their shared faith. She loved a good front porch sitting, and she loved to travel and visit new places. Ever adventurous, Emma enjoyed the beauty of nature and often embarked on hikes with the Tennessee Tech hiking class.

Yet it was the moments spent with her family that brought Emma the greatest joy. Her love for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren knew no bounds. They were her pride and joy in life.

Emma Jo Dillon will be fondly remembered as the embodiment of warmth, generosity, and love. Her smile and comforting embrace touched the lives of many, making strangers feel like family. Her legacy of love and compassion will forever resonate in the hearts of those privileged to have known her.
