Elton Stout

Graveside services and interment for Elton Draper Stout, age 91 of Silver Point, will be at 1 p.m. Friday December 3 at Crest Lawn Cemetery. Officiating will be family members and Bro. John Whitson. Mr. Stout passed away Monday evening November 29, 2021 at his home. He was born in Jackson County on January 29, 1930 to the late F. Hargis and Velma Brown Stout. He attended elementary school in Putnam County and graduated from Baxter Seminary in 1948. He entered Tennessee Tech to major in education but decided to join his father in farming. He was co-owner of the Smith County and Tennessee Tobacco Warehouses and served as manager of the Smith County Warehouse. Mr. Stout also coached Baxter Little League for more than 20 years, was a member of the Baxter Civitan Club, and served as a Putnam County Commissioner for more than 20 years. He attended the Silver Point Church of Christ. Mr. Stout was married to Dorothy Nell Denny in 1960. In addition to his wife of 61 years, he is survived by their children and spouses: Lucinda (Russell) Moss of Cookeville, Dr. J. Bunker (Amy) Stout of Atlanta, Georgia, and Patrick Stout of Silver Point. He is survived by four grandchildren and spouses: Dr. Frank Moss of San Francisco, California; Samuel Draper (Michelle) Stout of Nashville; Dr. Andrew (fiancé Francie Puglia) Moss of Birmingham, Alabama; and Kirby Stout (Dr. Greg) Zora of Atlanta, Georgia. In addition, Mr. Stout is survived by one brother and spouse: Tony (Linda) Stout; four sisters and spouses: Wanda Shanks, Treba Carter, Sarah (Charles) Johnson, and Donnita (Ron) Hill Williams; and a sister-in-law Wanda Sue Stout. Preceding him in death was a brother Earl Stout, brothers-in-law Walter Warren Shanks and Eldon Carter, and a nephew Stanley Shanks, and his father-in-law and mother-in-law Tamer J. Denny and Clara Ashburn Denny. Pallbearers will be Wayne Shanks, Michael Carter, Kenny Stout, Mark Stout, Charlie Johnson, David Johnson, Monty Hill and Andy Hill. Memorial contributions may be made to the CRMC Mended Hearts, Cookeville Regional Charitable Foundation (Cancer Care Fund), Happy Haven, and St. Jude’s Children Hospital.
