Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Smith, age 89 will be held Thursday, December 23, 2021 at 10:00 am in the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Pastor Bryan Hickey will officiate. Interment will follow in Salem Cemetery. Her family will receive friends Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and again Thursday morning from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Mrs. Smith died Tuesday December 21, 2021 at her residence . She was born October 3, 1932 in the Willow Grove community of Overton County, TN to the late Estes and Gladys Stover Raines. She was a graduate of Tennessee Tech University. She taught high school science for 30 years, including 26 years at Monterey High School. Following her teaching career, she worked at the Cookeville branch of the Putnam County Library and was a member of the retired teachers association. She attended Westhaven Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Will T. "Billy" Bullock and her second husband, Buford Elmer Smith; She is survived by her daughter, Dawn Hickey and husband Bryan of Cookeville; sister, Marie Chapman; brother, James (Becky) Raines, niece, Lisa Chapman Fowler and husband Buck and by a nephew, Scott Raines, all of Algood.
