Funeral services for Mr. Elbert Brantley Danell West, age 80, will be held Saturday, May 2, 2015 at 2 p.m. at Burton's Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. Renee Franklin officiating. Interment with Military Honors will follow in the Algood Heritage Cemetery. Mr. West's family will receive friends at the church on Saturday from 12 p.m. until service time. He was born on Friday evening, January 4, 1935 in Minneapolis Minnesota to the late Daniel L.H. West and Esther T. (Splitstoser) West. He departed this life on Sunday, April 26, 2015 at Lorien Nursing Home, Mt. Airy, Maryland. Elbert was raised by his grandparents, Elbert West and Winnie L. (Buck) West of Algood, Tennessee. Following elementary school at Swallows in Algood, he attended and graduated from Darwin High School in Cookeville. He attended Wayne University in Detroit, Michigan 1954-1957, where he participated in varsity football, intramural basketball and wrestling. Elbert served eight years in the U.S. Air Force and received an Honorable Discharge (1957-1965), rising to the rank of staff sergeant. He leaves to cherish his memory, a loyal brother, Ernest Leonard West (wife-Lillian West) of Nolensville, TN and a sister, Elnor King (husband-George King) of Port Orchard, Washington. Among surviving nieces, nephews and cousins, are: cousin, Michael C. West (wife-Linda West) of Waynesboro, Pennsylvania; niece, Karen (West) Bator (husband-Gary Bator) of Darlington, Maryland; niece, Gloria Charles of Marina Del Rey, California; and nephew, Hugh L. Smith, Jr. (wife-Dr. Mary D. Smith) and family of Acworth, Georgia. Pallbearers will be Danny West, Damon West, Fred McClennon, Charles Carr, William Garrett, Jeff Carr, Harold Carr, Morris Irby, and Allon Carr.
