Edward Clark

Edward E. Clark, 80, of Cookeville, Tennessee passed away on April 18, 2020. Edward was born on February 18, 1940 in Cincinnati, Ohio to Oakley Clark and Maude (Neal) Clark. The second of seven children, he grew up in the Woody Community of Cumberland County, Tennessee, where he worked in his father’s country store. Edward graduated from Cumberland County High School (1957) and served in the Tennessee National Guard. He married the love of his life, Patricia Riley, in 1960. He attended Tennessee Polytechnic Institute (now Tennessee Technological University) where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering in 1962. Edward furthered his education, earning a Master of Science in Environmental Engineering from Vanderbilt University and a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering, with an emphasis on Environmental Engineering, from the University of Massachusetts. Upon his graduation from UMass he accepted an offer at Connell Associates, a large architectural and engineering firm in Miami, Florida, where he served as Vice President. He went on to establish his own environmental engineering firm and laboratory, Clark Engineers-Scientists, Inc., with offices in three locations around the state of Florida. He earned his private pilot’s license and enjoyed flying to oversee projects around the state. His firm was responsible for conducting projects and studies across the United States, as well as projects in England, and Taiwan. After living in Miami for 35 years, he and Patricia retired to Cookeville, Tennessee in 2004. Tennessee Tech remained dear to his heart and he served as an advisor on the Engineering Board. He was a devout Christian and member of the Collegeside Church of Christ. Throughout his life, and well into retirement, Edward enjoyed flying, motorcycles, golf, and playing the banjo. He is survived by his wife, Patricia, and daughters Carolyn Fox and Janet (David) Chaney. He is the proud grandfather of five grandchildren, Luke (Laura) Fox, Zachary (Kassi) Fox, Andrew (Shannon) Chaney, Hannah (Daniel) Istvanko, and Rachel Fox, and four great-grandchildren Julia, Jorja, Logan, and Layla Fox. He is also survived by his siblings Eugene Clark, Ruth Meyer, David Clark, Diana Roth, and Don Clark. He was preceded in death by his sister Rema Hedgecoth Private graveside services will be held Tuesday, April 21, at Green Acres Memory Garden in Crossville. A celebration of life for friends and extended family will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society or to the Cookeville Rescue Mission. Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
