Funeral services for Edith Teasley Nichols, 84, of Cookeville, will be conducted from the chapel of Hooper, Huddleston, & Horner Funeral Home in Cookeville on Wednesday, January 14, at 11:00 a.m. with interment to follow in Crestlawn Cemetery. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 13 and from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. prior to the service. Mrs. Nichols passed away at her home on Sunday, January 11 following an extended illness. Mrs. Nichols was born at her home in Robertson County, Tennessee on October 4, 1930 and was the fourth of seven children born to the late Will Farmer and Grace Murphy Teasley. Mrs. Nichols was a graduate of Nashville Business College. Always showing an excellence for basketball, she was considered a professional player while attending college and became a member of the 1950 Nashville Business College team, which won that year's national championship. A picture of this team is in the National Women's Hall of Fame in Knoxville, Tennessee with Mrs. Nichols being the first in line holding the winning basketball. In September 1969, her family relocated to Cookeville, and she became actively involved within the community. Mrs. Nichols was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Cookeville and the Cookeville Golf Club. She was well known for being an avid golfer, winning local tournaments, as well as being a member of the ladies team, which twice won the Tennessee Cancer Society Golf Championship. She was also the Tennessee State Senior Olympic Golf Champion in her age division. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Robert Wayne Nichols (whom she married March 14, 1952 at her parents' home in Sandy Springs, Tennessee) of Cookeville; a daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Bob Blair of Cookeville; a son and daughter-in-law, Ed and Robyn Nichols of Watertown; a daughter and son-in- law, Cindy and Alan Bridges of Murfreesboro; seven grandchildren: Brandon (Blair) Blair, Lindsey (Mark) Elliott, Brittany (Forrest) Farrer, Bethany (Derek) Faust, Courtney, Lucy, and Abby Bridges; eight great grandchildren: Addie, Elle, Ian, and Anna Blair, and Taylor, Noah, Zeke and Malachi Elliott; a brother, Joe (Lynda) Teasley and three sisters, Evelyn (Jack) White, Teady (Buddy) Justice, and Betty(Cy) Potts. In addition to her parents, brother, Doug Teasley and sister, Jean Dowlen, preceded her in death. Pallbearers will be Brandon Blair, Mark Elliott, Forrest Farrer, Derek Faust, Matt Manzaro, and Dr. Kent Fletcher. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Cookeville Golf Club Ladies Golf Group, First United Methodist Church Magnolia Place, and her special caregivers. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations are made to Cookeville United Methodist Church's Magnolia Place (where she attended for 4 years), 165 E. Broad Street, Cookeville, TN 38501 or the Alzheimer's Tennessee Inc., 1459 Interstate Drive STE 211, Cookeville, TN 38501. Dr. Martin Thielen will officiate at the services.
