He was born January 10, 1935 in Lois, Tennessee to the late Gordon Alexander and Rilda Copeland Jared. He was a graduate of Moore Co. High School. He moved to Cookeville to attend Tennessee Tech University where he was a member of the ROTC, met his wife Wanda and was a 1957 graduate. He then served his country in the US Army. His career in telecommunications began with the Old Southern Continental Phone Company. He retired as Vice President and General Manager of GTE, Tennessee after 35 years of service. Ed leaves a legacy of service to his family, church and community. He has been a member of Jefferson Ave Church of Christ since returning to live in Cookeville in 1973, serving as deacon and elder. He has been a member of the Rotary Club of Cookeville (Noonday) for 42 years where he served as president, was a multiple Paul Harris Fellow and exemplified Rotary's Principal Motto: Service Above Self. He was an avid supporter of the Tennessee Tech University College of Business and TTU Athletics. He served on the Friends of Tennessee Libraries Board of Directors and countless other community organizations. His friendly, outgoing, hospitable, determined, excellence-driven and service-oriented nature will be dearly missed. Ed will also be fondly remembered for his knack for winning -- from his days as a high school quarterback to his successful career and many accomplishments throughout his life. An avid golfer, Ed won multiple tournaments, scored lower than his age numerous times, had 3 holes in one and competed in the National Sr Olympics. He scored a perfect game 300 as a bowler and was an accomplished horseshoe pitcher. He was a devoted husband, loving brother and a hero father and grandfather. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Claudie Ray "Shorty" Jared and by his sister, Mary Price. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Wanda Livesay Jared (whom he married August 13, 1956 in Sparta); sons, Haskell Scott Jared and wife Heather of Durham, NC and Britton A.
