BAXTER CHAPEL - Earl Boyd Brown, respected member of the Baxter community, passed away on November 6, 2024, at his residence. He was born on March 17, 1937, in the Gentry community of Putnam County, Tennessee to Ethel Brown Sr. and Ollie Avo Boyd Brown. Earl lived a life rich in experience, love and hard work.
Earl's career was marked by numerous roles that showcased his industrious spirit. He began as a logger for Winnell Lee Lumber, a job he truly loved. He later traveled throughout the country to work on various pipelines. His passion for driving led him to work as a truck driver, initially with Mason Dixon trucking. He later joined Yellow Freight, where he would retire after many dedicated years of service.
Despite his stern demeanor, it was well-known that Earl possessed a deep-seated love within him, which he expressed through his actions. His hands may not have always been gentle, but they were always filled with care for those he loved. This love extended not just to his family but also to the life he cultivated around him; he was a passionate gardener who found joy in nurturing plants and watching them thrive.
In his leisure time, Earl cherished moments spent at his cabin in the woods, often taking tranquil car rides with his beloved wife, Nancy. The couple enjoyed observing the deer during their journeys, creating memories that would last a lifetime.
Earl leaves behind a loving family who will remember him fondly. He was the devoted husband of Nancy Bradford Brown for 62 wonderful years. His legacy continues through his children, Sheila Brown, Tim Brown (and his wife, Adriana), and Shelly Haggard (and her husband, Wayne). Earl was a proud grandfather to Dustin Sheperd (and his wife, Lindsey), Kevin Sheperd (and his wife, Gabrielle), Sydney Gilliam (and her husband, Bailey), Peyton Haggard, and Adelysse Brown. The joy of his great-grandchildren-Gage, Jackson, Everly, and Remi Sheperd-brought him immense happiness, illustrating the depth of his familial bonds. He is also survived by his sister, Patricia Clark.
Earl was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Ethel Brown Jr., Arnold Brown, Freeman Brown, Lehman Brown, Eva McReynolds, and Faye Boles.
A funeral service to honor Earl will be held at 1pm Monday November 11 at the Baxter Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home. Bro. Charlie Wills will officiate. Interment will follow at Crest Lawn Cemetery. Visitation for friends and family will be Sunday from 5-8pm and again Monday from 11am-1pm.
Earl Brown will be remembered for his strength, dedication, and unwavering love for his family. May he rest in peace, knowing he was deeply loved and will be sorely missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Baxter Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. (931)858-2134 Share condolences and memories at www.hhhfunerals.com.
