COOKEVILLE -- Memorial services for Dr. Thomas Leonard Reddick of Cookeville will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 18, at Dyer Funeral Home. Burial will be in Springfield, Mo., where a family graveside service will be held. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. today, Tuesday, June 17, at the funeral home. Dr. Reddick died peacefully at his home on Friday, June 15, 2008. He was a native of Springfield, Mo., but resided in Cookeville since 1968. Dr. Reddick was a professor in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at Tennessee Technological University, where he coordinated the graduate program in Instructional Leadership. Dr. Reddick concluded his 40th year of distinguished service at Tech. He received his bachelor of arts degree in 1960 from Drury University in Springfield. His master's degree was earned in 1963 from the University of Missouri at Columbia. Dr. Reddick was awarded the Ph.D in educational administration from the University of Mississippi in 1967. Upon graduation from the University of Mississippi, Dr. Reddick served as administrative assistant to the U.S. Secretary of Education in Washington, D.C., and from this position, he joined the faculty at Tech. Dr. Reddick was an active member of the educational profession. His contributions to the field included teaching, mentoring his students and providing educational workshops and seminars nationally. Dr. Reddick was recognized for his success in teaching and commitment to student achievement. He initiated the School Law Seminar for area school leaders, which has been successfully offered for 34 consecutive years at Tech. Also, he was chair of the University Building and Ground Committee, which sets policy for campus beautification and building care. He served as a member of the University Extended Education and Outreach Committee. Dr. Reddick maintained an active role in a number of professional organizations and honor societies. These included Phi Kappa Phi, Kappa Delta Pi, Phi Delta Kappa, Sigma Delta Phi, American Educational Research Association, Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development and the State and National Education Associations. He had a strong interest in improving education for the state and region and was an active consultant with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. His family includes a son and daughter-in-law, Kurt and Tracy Reddick of Carthage; a daughter and son-in-law, Karissa and Rick Davan of Cary, N.C.; a brother and sister-in-law, Dr. Max and Mary Reddick of Houston, Texas; four grandchildren, Chelsea, Katie and Will Reddick and Kiley Mae Davan; and a niece and three nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Josephine Reddick. Memorial donations may be made to the College of Education's Education Foundation at Tennessee Technological University.
