Dorothy Nichols

Funeral services for Dorothy Brotherton Nichols, age 96 of Cookeville, TN will be held March 9, 2024. Reverend Christian Smith will officiate with interment following at Phillips Cemetery in Cookeville TN.

The family will receive friends and family at the funeral home Saturday, March 9, 2024 between 9:00 and 11:00. Service time will be at 11:00.

Dorothy Nichols died March 6, 2024. She was born October 9, 1927 in Algood, TN. to the late Dewey H. Brotherton and Bertha Phy Brotherton. She was a graduate of Algood High School class of 1947.

Dorothy worked at Wrights Dime Store and Wilson Sporting Goods before moving to Michigan in 1949, after marrying the love of her life John Nichols. They were married for 66 years. Later, she retired from the Dearborn Michigan School System. She and her husband moved back to Tennessee in 1983 and had a farm where they had cattle, chickens and a big garden. Dorothy was a member of the First Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Cookeville, TN. where she was the oldest living member.

In addition to her parents’ she was preceded in death by her husband John Nichols, son Kelvin T. Nichols, sister Devonia McGee, and infant brother Ray Douglas Brotherton.

She is survived by her daughter Cynthia Rauch (Frank), of Wyandotte, Michigan and a son Bruce Dale Nichols (Patti) of Southgate, Michigan. A proud grandmother to: Abigail Graves (Adam) of Edina, Minnesota, Allison Birmingham (Nick) of Battle Creek Michigan, Anna Stanko (Mark) of Grosse Ile., Michigan; Chad Nichols of Lincoln Park, Michigan, and Jace Nichols of Sterling Hgts, Michigan. She was a loving great-grandmother to: Averie, Ainsley and Archie Graves, Leighton, Trey and Kemp Birmingham, Presley Ann Stanko, Addison Nichols, and Evelyn Nichols. She is also survived by a sister, Robbie Wilmoth and brother Robert Brotherton of Cookeville, TN.,

Family members will serve as pallbearers.
