Five of her siblings, Abe Verble, Mary Frances Myers, Gladys Barton, Lawrence Verble and Charles Verble, preceded her in death. Dorothy moved to Detroit in l942, to obtain work and was hired by Chrysler where she worked for many years. It was in Detroit where she met and wed Fred Marchbanks. They were married for 21 years until his death in 1980. Much like the hymn, Dorothy lived her life as an example of "If I can help somebody." She cared deeply about her family and was always willing to lend a hand to those who needed one. She loved people and was generous to all. Dorothy never met a stranger and always had a funny story, a kind word or a pearl of wisdom to share. Dorothy had a spirit of adventure and loved to travel. She organized several trips through her own travel club and visited places such as Hawaii, the Caribbean, and Europe as well as taking several cruises. She loved playing cards, entertaining, cooking, and baking. She was an active member of Berea Saint Paul United Methodist Church in Highland Park and later in life became a member of Saint Paul United Methodist Church near her home in Detroit. She was a member of various clubs such as the United Methodist Women and the Chrysler Retirees. She leaves to cherish her memory as sister, Gustie McCormick of Detroit and brother, Herbert Hoover (Norma Jean) of Las Vegas. Although she had no children of her own, she served as a mother, grandmother and friend to many nephews, nieces, extended family members and good friends who will never forget her and will miss her dearly. Active Pallbearers will be Charles Verble JR, Greg Verble, Robert Verble, Will Hewlett, Barry McMurry, Brandon Barton III, Therome Barton, and Kelvin Verble. Honorary Pallbearers will be Eugene Henson, John Goolsby, Benny Myers, Brandon Barton II, Joseph Barrociere, and William Carter III. Flower Bearers will be great nieces.
