BAXTER CHAPEL- Mrs. Dorothy Louise Leftwich, a beloved matriarch, devoted friend, and cherished member of the Baxter community, passed away on November 28, 2024 at Bethesda Health Care in Cookeville, Tennessee. Born on May 20, 1933, in Tinsley, Kentucky to the late Benjamin and Edith Hawkins Melton. Dorothy lived a life rich with purpose, love, and service to others.

Dorothy was well-known for her role as a former owner, alongside her late husband John Leftwich, of the Baxter Bee Hive Restaurant, which became a cornerstone of the local dining scene and a favorite gathering spot for friends and family. Her commitment to her work and her community was matched only by her faith, which she practiced as a faithful and active member of Cedar Hill Baptist Church. Dorothy also shared her musical talents with the congregation, playing the organ at Cedar Hill Church for many years.

In addition to her dedication to her community and faith, Dorothy had a profound passion for the arts. She loved to sew and quilt, creating beautiful pieces that brought joy to those fortunate enough to receive her handiwork. Her legacy of creativity and craftsmanship will be remembered fondly by all who admired her talents.

Dorothy is survived by her loving sons, Ron (Faye) Leftwich of Baxter and Mark (Cathy) Leftwich of Gladeville, and her daughter, Amy Brothers of Gladeville, grandchildren: Ronnie (Ashley) Leftwich, Alex Leftwich, Hunter (Alyssa) Brothers Nelson (Colleen) Brothers, Jacob Burgess, Kristie Burgess and husband Elliott Swimmer, great-grandchildren: Aurora Leftwich, Vivianne Brothers, Caroline Brothers, Aspen Brothers and Eleanor Swimmer and Riley Lowe, in addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, John Leftwich; her son, Wayne Leftwich, and her sisters, Helen Conley and Joyce Crider; brothers, George Melton, James Melton, and Vernon Melton, as well as her parents, all of whom preceded her in death.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Leftwich will be held at 11am, Monday, December 2nd from the Baxter Chapel of Hooper, Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home with Bro. Jimmy Hodge officiating.

Interment will follow at Crest Lawn Memorial Cemetery with Alex Leftwich, Ronnie Leftwich, Mark Leftwich, Nelson Brothers, Hunter Brothers and Jake Burgess will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends on Sunday at the Baxter Chapel from 5-8pm and again on Monday from 9am until service time at the funeral home.

Dorothy's warmth and kindness will be profoundly missed, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
