Dorothy Dean Harris, born February 12, 1938, in White County, TN left her earthly home surrounded by loved ones, on May 10, 2024. She married Raymond “Ed” Edward Harris on June 30, 1958, who preceded her in passing on January 18, 1996. Aside from her husband, she is preceded in death by her parents, Sadie Bryant Wheeler and Haskel Wheeler; brother, Gene Wheeler; brothers in law, Grover Upchurch, Jerry Waller, and Pope Allen, She and her family moved to Putnam County when she was a child, where she met Ed and had 3 children.
Dorothy is survived by her children, Dale (Bridget) Harris, Jeff Harris, Marsha and (Kevin) Poore.
She is also survived by her loving sisters, Edith Upchurch, Reba Allen, Mary Waller; her brothers, Dewey and Nita Wheeler and Billy and Pam Wheeler.
Also surviving are grandchildren, Corey Harris, Nicolas Harris, Kyle Harris, Kati and Cody Slatton, Luke Poore and Hannah Poore and 2 great grandchildren, Brinley and Aria who affectionately called her “Granny”.
Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
Mrs. Harris was a loyal and active member of Stevens Street Baptist Church. She stayed active serving in the Nursery for 50 plus years. Wherever there was an infant or toddler you would find Dorothy eagerly interacting. She also served in the Care Center for many years
She was a woman of deep Christian faith. Dorothy’s life reflected kindness, grace, and selflessness. Her nurturing spirit and love created a warm and welcoming environment wherever she went. She spent time loving and enjoying her family, working in her yard, and adored her flowers. She was known for her cooking and in her earlier years being the neighborhood caregiver to many children.
The family would like to extend a special “Thank You” to the caregivers at Gentiva of Cookeville.
Funeral services for Dorothy will be held Monday, May 13, 2024 at 2 PM in the Dyer Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home with Pastor Houston Jared and Bro. Tim Frank officiating. The family will receive friends 11 am until service time at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Crest Lawn Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be Kyle Harris, Jere Gentry, Jacob Reagan, Cade Reagan, Nic Harris and Corey Harris.
