Dorothy Fuhrman

Mrs. Dorothy Jean Fuhrman, age 88, of Destin, FL passed away Saturday, July 29, 2017 at her summer home in Cookeville, TN. Per her wishes, a private family service was held. Cremation was chosen and interment will be at a later date in Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola, FL. Mrs. Fuhrman was born May 11, 1929 in Martins Ferry, OH to the late Charles and Gertrude Shaefer Mehlman. She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran church and lived her faith. She was affectionately known as "Dot" and was raised on the family dairy farm with her sister, brother, and a multitude of cousins. She graduated from Ohio Valley General Hospital's nursing diploma program and practiced as a registered nurse in a variety of settings during her career. She retired in 1983 as a wellness nurse with the State of Tennessee. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, William J. Fuhrman; and brother, Ted Mehlman. Dot and Bill enjoyed a 30 year retirement in Destin,FL. Their many friends and neighbors were very special to them. Dot loved to travel and delighted in her children and grandchildren's successes and adventures. Mrs. Fuhrman is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Judy Fuhrman of Clinton, TN; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jean and Lou Bottiggi of Brentwood, TN, and Nancy and Ronnie Kelly of Cookeville; sister, Kay Holligan of Cleveland, OH; seven grandchildren, Dr. William Jordan Fuhrman and wife Myra, Mackenzie Cissell, Alex Bottiggi, Kelsie Bottiggi, Lane Kelly, Will Kelly, and Beth Kelly; and great granchildren Caleb and Cooper Cissell. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sacred Heart Foundation of the Sacred Heart Health System, 98 West, Miramar Beach, FL 32550.
