Dorothy Emma Mata

Dorothy Emma Bessler Mata, age 98, of Levittown, PA. died on May 20, 2024 at Heritage Point in Cookeville, TN. Dorothy was born in Philadelphia, PA on February 8, 1926 to Adolph and Emma Bessler. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Francisco Laureano Mata, her brothers Edwin and Alfred, and grandson Joseph.

Dorothy is survived by her four children Larry Mata (Nina) of Nevada, Susan Piras (Robert) of Tennessee, Warren Mata of Pennsylvania and Gail Ceccarelli (Ronald) of Maryland.

Dorothy is survived by nine grandchildren: Christopher (Alicia), Nicole, Andrew (Clare), Megan, Lyann, Conner (April), Matthew, Carla, and Lisa. Also, she is survived by eight great grandchildren: Landon, Grayson, Cameron, Courtney, Heather, Ryan, Jack and Ben, and two great-great grandchildren: Hazel and Ellie. Dorothy is survived by many nieces and nephews.

In addition to being a homemaker, Dorothy was a switchboard operator for Pomeroy’s, Bamberger’s and Macy’s for many years. She loved Philadelphia, the Mummer’s and could be seen doing the Mummer’s Strut.

Dorothy will be remembered for her quick wit and conversation. Her optimistic spirit inspired those she came in contact with. A cup of coffee and time to chat with a loved one was her idea of a grand time.

A burial will be held on Tuesday May 28th at 12:30 PM at the Cedar Hill Cemetery in Philadelphia.
