Marie was a devoted member of Wilhite Baptist Church, where her loving nature and considerate spirit shone brightly. Her life was enriched by her love for music; she was a gifted fiddler who shared her gift as part of a bluegrass local band. Her artistic flair also shone through in her abilities as a talented painter, which brought joy to those who appreciated her creative expressions. Marie's enthusiasm for music and art was a central part of her identity and a source of joy for those who knew her
Together with her late husband, Joe Sam Carter, she shared a love that extended beyond their home-both were avid participants in the world of quarter midget car racing. They traveled extensively, not only to compete but also to support others in the racing community, creating cherished memories as they navigated the tracks together.
As a loving matriarch, Marie cherished her role as a mother and grandmother. She is survived by her children, David Carter (Penny), Stephen Carter (Tammy), and Joane Gottenboss (Ray). Her family grew through the years, blessing her with thirteen grandchildren and several great-grandchildren, all of whom held a special place in her heart.
Marie is preceded in death by her parents, William Doy Crislip and Mary Susan Elwood Crislip; her beloved husband, Joe Sam Carter; her siblings Donald, William, Edward, Robert, and Roger Crislip; and her granddaughter, Tonya Jean Smith. Each of these individuals played a significant role in her life, and she will be lovingly remembered for the warmth and affection she showed to all.
