COOKEVILLE CHAPEL - Don W. Robertson went to his heavenly home on Saturday, April 19, 2025 to be with his savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. Don was born November 15, 1933 near New Maysville in Putnam County, Indiana. He graduated from Danville High School (class of 1953) in Danville, Indiana. He also graduated from US Army Finance School in Fort Harrison, Indiana (class of 1954), and obtained a bachelor of science degree in accounting from Ball State in 1960.
After basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, he served in the US Army Finance for three years with the 1st Finance Office, Fort Carson, Colorado and with the 8th US Army Head Quarter, the 21st Finance Office in Seoul, Korea.
After military service he worked and retired from Dana Corporation as an accountant for a total of 27 years. First at Marion, Indiana factory and later as chief accountant for Dana RDC Factories with locations in six different states. He later transferred to the Gordonsville, Tennessee factory where he retired.
Don was involved and supported the Cookeville Pacesetters for 35 years. He was a member of Cookeville American Legion Post 46. In his "golden years" he started writing books. He published two books including Sowing Seeds for America' Roots and America Blowing in the Wind. At age 88, he wrote two more books: It Takes Two, God and You and Keep Looking Up.
The following family members have predeceased Don and have been reunited with him in heaven, parents, William and Ruth Sheckles Robertson; sister, Marjorie Robertson Gerlach and husband Carl Grelach; first wife Doris Grider Robertson; their oldest son, Don W. Robertson Jr; and second wife, Nancy Rice Robertson.
He is survived by his son, Brad Robertson and his wife Teresa Kuss of Columbia, Missouri; daughter, Loretta Robertson of Sparta, Tennessee; step-daughters Shelia Bates and husband Dennis of Nashville, Sueanne Jones and husband Wendell of Fairview; and six grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren
A funeral service with military honors for Don will begin at 1 p.m. Thursday April 24 at the Cookeville First United Pentecostal Church. Pastor Josh Hodum will officiate. Visitation for friends and family will be Thursday from 11 - 1 p.m. at the church. Interment will be Tuesday, April 29, 2025 at 1 p.m. in Garden of Memory Cemetery in Marion, Indiana.
