Funeral services for Mr. Donald Cee Hayes, Sr., age 68 of Cookeville will be held Tuesday, July 28th at 1:00 p.m. at Trinity Algood. Interment will follow in Algood Heritage Cemetery. Rev. Diantha McCleod, Pastor Sterl Paramore and Minister Floyd Searcy will officiate. His family will receive friends Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the church. Due to Covid-19 precautions, social distance measures will be in place. Mr. Hayes died Thursday, July 23, 2020 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville. He was born September 28, 1951 in Algood, TN to the late James Arthur "Gabby" Hayes, Jr. and Carrie Mai Peek Hayes. Mr. Hayes attended the former Swallows Elementary School in Algood, and Algood High School where he enjoyed playing on the basketball team. He worked 30 plus years at Tennessee Tech University where he was a Supervisor in the cafeteria and later retired on March 25, 2003. Donald enjoyed working on cars, mowing lawns and fishing. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Travis Hayes, and a sister, Jeanetta Hayes Howard. His family includes a soulmate of 42 years, Wanda Kaye Manis; five sons and two daughters in law, Donald and Emily Hayes, Jr., Calvin Hayes, Jerry Michael and Heather Hayes, Keith Hayes all of Cookeville, and Wesley Goolsby of AZ; two daughters and a son in law, Donna and Floyd Searcy of Lebanon and Amanda Hayes of Sparta; brothers and three sisters in law, James Dean and Dorothy Hayes of Smithville, William Curtis and Christine Hayes of Cookeville, Jerry and Robbie Hayes of Algood, and James 'Pop' Gist of Cookeville; three sisters, Emma Roberts of Cookeville, Edith Tubbs of Algood, and Mattie Woods of Cookeville; 25 grandchildren; and four great grandchildren; two aunts, Mary Alice McClellan and Margaret Ann Hurt of Cookeville; two devoted cousins, Bridgett West of Texas and Charlie King of Cookeville; and a devoted friend, Clarence 'Bozo' Allen; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins & friends. The family would like to express a special "thank you" to the Hope Center in Nashville, Vanderbilt University Medical Center and the Cancer Center at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.
