Donald Eugene "Gene" Haney

Donald Eugene Haney, known affectionately as Gene, passed away peacefully on August 31, 2023, at Cedar Hills Senior Living in Cookeville, TN. Born on June 9, 1929, in Putnam County, TN, to Thurman Claude Haney and Allie Mae Madewell Haney, Gene lived a life of dedication, integrity, and warmth.

Gene was predeceased by his parents and his first wife, Frances Conley Haney; and his siblings JP Haney, Lebert Haney, Elise McNeal, Carmen Haney, and Mae Reynolds. He was also preceded in death by second wife of 64 years, Dona Vee Haney, son, Rodger Dale Haney; and great-grandson, Christopher Lloyd Haney.

Gene is survived by his grandchildren, David (Lisa) Haney, and Roger (Rachel) Haney, great-grandchildren, Kevin, Kimberly, Andrew, and Ryan Haney; his sister, Gayle Livingston; and many extended family members.

Gene's professional life was marked by a remarkable 30 year career at General Motors, where he was known for his tireless work ethic and dedication. His retirement was well-earned, but he never lost the industrious spirit that defined his career.

Gene was an outgoing individual who never met a stranger. He had a knack for making people feel comfortable and valued. His honesty and hardworking nature extended beyond his professional life and into his personal relationships, making him a cherished friend and neighbor.

Funeral services for Gene will be at 3 p.m. Sunday September 3 at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home. Pastor Wade Givens and Reverend Henry Amirkhanian will officiate. His family will receive friends Sunday from 2 p.m. until service time.

Graveside services and interment will be Wednesday, September 6, 2023 at 1:00 PM (EST) in Beavercreek Township Cemetery in Beavercreek, OH.
