Funeral services for Mr. Richard "Dick"� Donald Howell SR, 79, of Cookeville will be held Tuesday September 4 at 1 o"�clock in the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Interment, with Military Honors provided by the U. S. Air Force Honor Guard, will follow in Cookeville City Cemetery. Rev. Mark Gaw and Dr. Robert Ward will officiate. Mr. Howell died Friday evening August 31, 2012 in Cookeville Regional Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. He was born October 6, 1932 in Putnam County to the late Shelia Clarence and Ethel Christine Howell. He led an active and fulfilling life, as a retired U. S. Air Force Korean Veteran MSGT with 21 years of service; retired Clerk with the Cookeville Post Office with 17 years of service; and retired from the general maintenance department with the Veterans Building with over 20 years of service. He was an avid golfer and loved woodworking and gardening. He was a long-time member of Washington Avenue Baptist Church. He was a 50 year member of Cookeville Masonic Lodge 266 F& AM; a member of the York Rites Masonic Bodies; member of Al Menah Shrine Temple. He was also a member of Cookeville VFW Post 6296 and American Legion Post 46. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sister, Betty Sue Langford and brother, Donald Troop. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Betty Flatt Howell (whom he married November 6, 1949 in Cookeville) son and daughter-in-law, Richard Donald & Carolyn Howell JR; daughter and son-in-law, Sandy & Tommy Haile all of Cookeville; grandson Richard Donald (Ricky) & Cara Howell III of Spring City, TN; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Harold & Patsy Howell of Cookeville, and Bobby & Barbara Howell of Hemet, CA. The U. S. Air Force Honor Guard will serve as Pallbearers. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cancer Care Fund at Cookeville Regional Medical Center One Medical Center Blvd Cookeville, TN 38501. His family extends "Special Thanks"� to the Staff at CRMC CVCICU and Dr. James Buchanan. His family will receive friends Tuesday from 11 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
