Memorial services for Mr. Donald Byrd Holloway, Sr., 82 of Cookeville will be held Thursday July 14 at 11 a.m. at the First Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 565 East Tenth Street with Dr. Charles McCaskey officiating. Private family graveside services will proceed the memorial service at Cookeville City Cemetery. Mr. Holloway died Tuesday morning July 12, 2011 in Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was born June 24, 1929 in Crab Orchard, TN to the late Samuel Neil and Ida Lee Cox Holloway . Mr. Holloway attended elementary school in Crab Orchard graduated from Cumberland County High School. He was a graduate of Tennessee Tech and excelled in baseball, lettering four years. He served in the United States Army as a 1st Lieutenant before returning to Cookeville, where he worked as Executive Vice President of First Tennessee Bank until his retirement. He was a member of the First Cumberland Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder for over forty four years and also as a Sunday School teacher. He was active in many community and civic organizations including Kiwanis, Putnam County Tech Alumni, UGF (now known as United Way), Model A Club, each of which he was selected as President. He was also a Founding Board Member of the Putnam County Chamber of Commerce and was involved in local Little League baseball. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Neil Holloway; and a brother-in-law, Army Sherrill. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Betty Grisard Holloway; two sons, Don Holloway Jr. and wife Jan and James Lynn Holloway, daughter, Shelia Julian and husband Terry, all of Cookeville; five grandchildren, Don Holloway III, Kelly Gaw and husband Landon, James Lynn Holloway Jr. and wife Laura Beth, Jessie Holloway, and Jonathan Reed Julian; three great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild; sister, Aileen Sherrill of Crab Orchard; brother, Carmen Lynn Holloway and wife Joan of Chattanooga; a host of nieces and nephews, and Casey, his beloved grand dog. Mr. Holloway"�s family will receive friends Thursday from 10 a.m. until service time at the church. Mr. Holloway"�s family suggests that Memorial Contributions be made to the building fund at First Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
