Don Curtis Norris

Funeral services for Mr. Don Curtis Norris, age 78, of Cookeville, will be held Sunday July 12 at 1:00 pm in the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home. Bro. Clayton Lee will officiate. Interment will follow in the Double Springs Cemetery. His family will receive friends Saturday from 4 - 7 p.m. and again Sunday from 12 p.m. until time of services. Due to Covid-19 precautions, social distance measures will be observed. Don passed away Thursday, July 9, 2020 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was born June 6, 1942 in Putnam County, TN to the late David Dow and Ozzie Cleghorn Norris. He was a 1961 graduate of Algood High School and served his country in the United States Navy. Don worked at Red Kap in Cookeville as a sewing machine mechanic for 36 years until his retirement in 2000. He was also owner of Norris Sewing Machine and Small Engine Repair. He was a devoted family man and especially enjoyed joking with his grandkids. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Betty Jane Norris, whom she married July 1, 1967; daughter, Christina Norris; brother-in-law, Fred Bryant and father-in-law, Sam Steel. He is survived by two sons, David (Bonnie) Norris of Dodson Branch; Curtis (Shelia) Norris of Hilham; daughter, Donnell (Justin) Lee of Dodson Branch; , brother, Lloyd Norris of Cookeville; sister, Patsy Howell of Algood; grandchildren, Jeffery (Amanda) Roberts, Jacob Roberts, Chelsea (Tyler) Slagle, Haley (DJ "TJ" Coulson) Hardy, and Mackenzie Norris all of Cookeville; and nine great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Pat Bryant; brother-in-law, Tony Steel, and by mother-in-law, Juanita Steel. Pallbearers will be DJ Coulson, Tyler Slagle, Johnny Kellum, Jefferey Roberts, Dustin Johnson, Cliff Howell and William Norris. Hooper Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
