Destiny Herren

February 3, 2005 — January 29, 2024

Destiny Sky Herren left this world on January 29, 2024, at her residence in Henderson, TN, waking suddenly to her glorious homecoming. Born on February 3, 2005, in Cookeville, TN, Destiny's vibrant spirit and passionate heart made an indelible mark on all who knew her during the 18 years of her life. She sowed seeds of faith, justice, and courage wherever she lived, worked, and played.

Destiny's journey began as the cherished daughter of Derek and Beth Herren. She grew up surrounded by love and support, not only from her parents but also from her siblings Derek Miles Herren II, Lily Grace Mackenzie Herren, and Kenzie Sue Herren. Her family circle extended to include her beloved great-grandmother, Charlotte Bruestle, grandmother, Nancy Herren Jernigan, great-uncles, Jimmy and Scott Gregory, as well as her uncle Ricky Herren, his spouse Nicole, and their daughter Lucy Rose.

Destiny's life was profoundly enriched by her uncle and aunt, Jeff and Amanda Rippy along with their children Sadie Mae and Charlie Anne. Her cousin, Vanessa LeAnn Kitchens, also held a special place in Destiny's heart. Her authenticity, love, and light drew many friends into her circle.

A recent graduate of high school in 2023, Destiny was a dedicated student at Freed-Hardeman University, where she was pursuing her passion for nursing. Her desire to help and heal others was evident in her academic pursuits and her involvement in the community. She lived in total surrender to the Lord she loved, serving his Kingdom with her heart, soul, mind, and strength. Destiny's work as a counselor at Camp Overton, WinShape Camps and River Kids showcased her natural ability to lead and inspire youth. She was especially passionate about loving and leading middle school students. A radiant dancer, her love for dance was not only a personal joy but also a gift she shared as a teacher. Above all else, Destiny was a true worshipper, using her talents to draw others near to the throne of God.

Destiny's interests reflected her dynamic personality. She was fierce, brave, loyal, and adventurous. Her adventurous spirit was evident in her love for hiking and cliff jumping, activities that allowed her to embrace the beauty of creation and the thrill of life.

A devoted member of the River Community Church, Destiny's faith was not just a private matter but a lived experience that she shared through her involvement in the church community. Her love for others and her faith-filled life made her a beacon of hope and joy to those around her.

A funeral service honoring Destiny's life will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, February 4, at the River Community Church. Friends and family are invited to gather for a time of visitation from 2-3 p.m. before the service. Friends should dress for comfort, as Destiny would, and for anyone who would like to honor her iconic style, wear big sunglasses or the colors green or blue. Destiny will be laid to rest at Cookeville City Cemetery, on Monday February 5 at 4 p.m.

Destiny's life was a testament to the faithfulness of her Creator. The multitudes whose lives she touched are the legacy she leaves behind.
