Funeral Services for Mr. Dennis Sterling Tennant, 67, of Cookeville, will be held at Saturday, April 20, at 5 pm in the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home with Rev. Gary West officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Maxwell Cemetery (North). His family will receive friends Friday from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and Saturday from 3 p.m. until service time at the funeral home. Mr. Tennant died Wednesday evening, April 17, 2013 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was born October 6, 1945 in Bay City, MI, to the late Kenneth Grant and Helen Van Haaren Tennant. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Walt and Grant Tennant; and two sisters, Sharon Vicchio and Millie Preas. Mr. Tennant was a U.S. Navy Veteran having served during the Vietnam War. He was retired with over 28 years of service in sales at the former Porelon (Identity Group) in Cookeville. Mr. Tennant served in leadership in many community and civic organizations including United Way, Habitat for Humanity and the Putnam County Fair Board. He also served on the Leadership Putnam Board of Directors and was a member of the first graduating class. He was well-known in the Upper Cumberland Area for his barbeque cooking and was a "regular"� for years at the Fall Fun Fest and Habitat for Humanity"�s Cooking on the Square. He was an active member of the Board of Directors for Cookeville Senior Citizens. He was also a long-time member of Cookeville Masonic Lodge #266; and Al Menah Shrine Temple. He was active in the Putnam County Democratic Party and was a former member of the Putnam County Commission representing the 7th District. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Janice "Cissie"� Maxwell Tennant (whom he married March 20, 1971 in Cookeville); son and daughter-in-law, D.D. and Christy Tennant of Cookeville; brother, Kenneth Tennant of Flint, MI; sister and brother-in-law, Agnes and Don Styers of Rapid City, MI; granddaughter, Chloe Ann Tennant; and numerous nieces and nephews. James Dow Goff, Frank Goff, Randall Johnson, Arnold McCowan, Randy Todd, and Gary Murphy will serve as pallbearers.
