Funeral services for Mr. Dennis Patrick O'Brien, age 64 of Cookeville, will be held Sunday, November 19 at 7 pm from the Chapel of Hooper Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home with Rev. Christian Smith and Rev. Dwight Henry officiating. Graveside services and interment will be Monday at 1 pm in Calvary Cemetery in Nashville, TN. Dennis passed away Thursday afternoon, November 16, 2017. He was born October Wednesday 14, 1953 in Nashville, TN to Marion S. O'Brien of Nashville and the late Philip J. O'Brien III. Dennis graduated from Father Ryan High School in Nashville in 1971. He then attended TTU receiving his Bachelor of Science in 1975, and a Master of Arts in 1977. While at TTU, he was a faithful member of the Alpha Phi Omega fraternity, and worked with Residential Life as head resident. After graduating, he worked at Loyola University in New Orleans from 1977-1982. After moving to Jamestown, TN in 1982, he taught 6th grade math and social studies at Pine Haven Elementary School until his retirement in 2008. Dennis was a faithful member of the Jamestown First United Methodist Church for 30 years, serving in various leadership and committee positions. He was a founding and active member of Emmaus and Chrysalis of the Cumberlands. He was a man of faith in God, an avid reader of the Bible, and a sincere believer in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. After moving to Cookeville in 2015, he found a new church home and joined Cookeville First Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He loved watching the Tennessee Titans and UT football games, and listening to classic rock music. He was a faithful and caring family man, a devoted grandpa and a dedicated citizen in his community. Dennis was also preceded in death by his brother, Thomas M. O'Brien In addition to his mother, Dennis is survived by his wife of 40 years, Kaye Copley O'Brien (whom he married December 23, 1977 in New Orleans); daughter, Katie (Vance) Little of Cookeville; son, Patrick (Erica) O'Brien of Rockvale, TN; granddaughters, Madie and Cora of Cookeville; three sisters, Kathy (Bob) Mahoney of Mandeville, LA, Claire (Jeff) Barnes of Nashville, Elizabeth (Gus) Guy of Burns, TN; brother, Philip J. (Paula) O'Brien IV of Mt. Juliet; and a host of nieces and nephews. Honorary pallbearers will be the brothers of Alpha Phi Omega fraternity, Danny Hailey and Vince Jeffers. His family will receive friends Sunday from 4 pm until service time at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cookeville First Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 565 E. 10th Street, Cookeville, TN 38501.
