Delphine Mary Zalewski passed peacefully in bed with loving care at Life Care of Sparta, Tennessee at 8:00 pm March 15, 2022. Del is survived by 3 sons, Thomas (Geri), Kenneth (Barbra) and John (Angie) Zalewski. Del was preceded in death by her Husband of 47 years Vincent A. Zalewski. Del was born May 5, 1928, in Hamtramck, Michigan. She graduated from Dominican Catholic High School in the 1940’s. To support the war effort, Del and her classmates wrapped bandages and assembled first aid kits. Del worked at the Chrysler tank plant until her marriage to Vincent on January 29, 1953. After her children were of age, Del worked for the Detroit Public School system at Denby High School. She retired with her husband and youngest son to Cookeville, Tennessee in 1976. Del volunteered at the Cookeville Regional Medical Center. After retirement, Del traveled with friends, church groups and senior center trips. She particularly enjoyed visiting her aunt in Whittier, California. At times in her life, Del enjoyed ceramics, knitting, quilting, bingo and exercise walks. Del has been blind for decades and spent her later years listening to audio books and sunning herself on the front porch. She also enjoyed gardening her favorite tomato plants. In addition to her children, Del talked frequently of her grandchildren Michael, Emily, Jessica (Joe Nanni), Katelyn (Christopher) Moylan, Jacob, Peyton, Nick and Ben. She lived to meet her Great Grandchildren Chloe, Destiny and Riley Grace. A private interment at the family plot in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Detroit, Michigan will be later in the year.
