Funeral services for Bettie Cordelia Jo Taylor Leddy, 81, of Cookeville, TN will be held Friday, October 5, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Jefferson Ave. Church of Christ with Dr. Leighton Sissom and Brother Steve Baggett officiating. Congregational singing will be led by Dr. Jann Cupp. Interment will follow in Cookeville City Cemetery. Her family will receive friends Thursday 5 p.m.-8 p.m. in the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home and Friday 9 a.m. until service time at Jefferson Avenue Church of Christ. Mrs. Leddy died Tuesday morning, October 2, 2012 at her residence after a brave and courageous seven year battle with Multiple Myeloma & Alzheimer"�s Disease. She was born February 26, 1931 at Lovelady near Ada, Pontotoc County, Oklahoma to the late Silas Peter "Bud"� Taylor, Sr. who was born March 5, 1865 at Boma, Putnam County, TN and Bettie Cordelia Potter Taylor born February 25, 1896 in Nathan, Arkansas. Mrs. Leddy was educated at Lovelady Elementary, a two room school house through the 8th grade. In high school she was a guard on the basketball team coached by the legendary Bertha F. Teague at Byng High School, Ada, OK. She was Salutatorian of her graduating high school class. While in college at East Central University (ECU), Ada, OK she married Glenn L. Leddy on April 20, 1951 at the Central Church of Christ, Ada, OK. She graduated from ECU with a major in Business Education and Home Economics. She accompanied her husband in his military and civilian careers. In Millington, TN she worked for ten years in a civil service position at the Memphis Naval Air-Station in various office jobs, and was promoted in her last assignment to handling the disposition of surplus military aircraft and equipment. Both of her children were born in Memphis, TN. She worked as a substitute school teacher for two years in the Memphis public school system. The family moved to Cookeville, TN in 1968 where she worked as a substitute teacher for two more years in Putnam County and later became an independent book representative for the Southwestern Company "� Share Division. After rearing her children, she resumed her civil service career working for the next 17 years with the US Dept of Commerce. She retired after 27 years of federal civil service positions. Mrs. Leddy had many areas of interest. She was a Girl Scout leader and a Cub Scout den mother. For many years she attended most Tennessee Tech University basketball and football games with her husband. She was an active member and past president of the Tennessee Tech Faculty Women"�s club. She enjoyed swimming regularly with Tech Faculty Women for over 35 years and competed at the TN Sr. Olympics. She enjoyed being an amateur (ham) radio operator- KB4EAT. She was a member and a past president of the Cookeville Repeater Association. She was also a member of the Short Mountain Repeater Club. She especially enjoyed gardening, cooking, music, camping, fishing, traveling and time with her family. Mrs. Leddy was an active member of Jefferson Ave. Church of Christ in Cookeville, TN. She taught Bible classes for young children for over 50 years at three different congregations in Memphis and Cookeville. She was also a long-time teacher in World Bible School correspondence courses. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Thomas Nathaniel Taylor (April 12, 1925), James Monroe Taylor (April 9, 2003); 1 sister, Lena Mariam Taylor Hunt (July 30, 2007); 5 half sisters and 5 half brothers; 3 brother-in-laws, Charles Raymond Hunt, James Monroe Leddy, Lurtis W. Scott ; 5 sisters-in-law, Ruth Lorene Leddy, Vera Saunders Leddy, Judith Gail Holt Leddy, Syble Marie Leddy Scott, Ileta Irene (Pat) Mitchell Taylor; two nieces, Linda Sue (Susie) Taylor, Priscilla Jane Hunt Ray; two nephews Scott Alan Leddy and Curry Lynn Scott. Survivors include her loving husband of 61 years, Glenn Leroy Leddy, a son, a daughter and their spouses, Steve Neal Leddy and Cynthia Garrett Leddy, Terry Kay Leddy Hughes and Garth Allan Hughes ; 4 grandchildren, Glenn Paul Leddy, Holly Anne Hughes, Katelyn Elizabeth Leddy, and Natalie Brooke Hughes all of Cookeville, TN; 1 brother Silas Peter Taylor, Jr. of Ada, OK; 1 sister-in-law Billie Fae Walker Taylor of Healdton, OK. Nieces and Nephews include Bettie Allene Taylor Rickner, Dr. Charles Wade Taylor, James Michael Taylor, Myra Louise Taylor Singleton, Tommy Eugene Hunt, Frank Earl Hunt, Ronnie Dean Hunt, Spencer Don Leddy, Bruce Leddy , Tracy Leddy , Johnny Hugh Scott, Gerald J. Thompson, Donald R. Thompson, and Eva Sue Robinson Long. Appreciation is also extended to BB&T Legge Insurance Employee Care Committee for their support. Also to our church families at Jefferson Ave and Collegeside Churches of Christ thanks for the love, support, visits and food and especially to Debbie and her husband Dr. Dale Work. Delia Leddy will be remembered as industrious, soft spoken, patient, yet outspoken when she felt the need, for her kind sweet spirit, her faith in God and love for her family.
