Dawson Smith

Memorial services for Mr. Dawson Smith, 95 of Cookeville, and formerly of Waverly, TN, will be held at a later date. Cremation services were chosen. Urn interment will be at Maxwell Chapel Cemetery. Mr. Smith died Monday March 7, 2016 at Signature Health Care of Putnam County located in Algood, TN. He was born September 24, 1919 in Jackson County, TN to the late Robert Pate and Plina Loretta West Smith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Eva Allene Bell Smith; three brothers, UL, Doyle, and Cecil Smith; and two infant sisters. Mr. Smith was a US Navy veteran of WWII and Purple Heart recipient. Following his military service, he was a heavy equipment operator in the logging industry. He later worked for TVA and retired with over 30 years of service. He is survived by two sons and daughter-in-law, Claude and Juanita Smith, and Earl Smith, all of Cookeville; daughter, Wanda Owens of Walls, MS; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
