David P. Smolnik

Funeral services for David P. Smolnik, age 65, of Oklahoma City OK and formerly of Cookeville, will be held on Sunday, March 21, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Dyer Funeral Home with burial in Crest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 20 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Smolnik passed away Monday, March 15, 2010 at the V A Medical Center in Oklahoma City OK following a brief illness. He was born April 4, 1944 in Mercer PA to the late Andrew Smolnik and Evelyn Hodge Appleby Smolnik. David was known and respected in the Cookeville area as an umpire for the Amateur Softball Association. He was of the Methodist faith and attended First United Methodist Church while living in Cookeville. David was also a veteran having served in the United States Air Force. He is survived by his loving wife, Julia Smolnik of OK; three daughters, April Nichols and husband James of Sparta, Melissa Tollison of Cookeville and Wendy Flanigan and husband Shane of Cookeville. David is also survived by a son, Bobby Griffin and wife Nichole of Livingston, and a son-in-law, Jeremy Tollison of Cookeville. He was poppy to fourteen grandchildren; Jr., Jason, Danny and Connor Griffin, James Jr, Dominique, Faythe, C.J., and Jessica Nichols, Brittany and Bridgett Flanigan, and Bianca, David and Corey Tollison. His family also includes five brothers, Dick Smolnik of Chino Hills CA, Danny Smolnik of Sharon PA, John Smolnik of New Castle PA, Gary Smolnik of Sharon PA, and Terry Smolnik of Mercer PA, as well as a sister-in-law, Patricia Cairns of Oklahoma City OK. In addition to his parents, David we preceded in death by a baby daughter. The family has requested memorial donations be made to Dyer Funeral Home in memory of David and to help cover his funeral expense.
