COOKEVILLE CHAPEL-Mike Norman, a beloved figure known for his warmth, humor, and unwavering support, was born on March 28, 1953, in Louisville, Kentucky. He spent the majority of his life sharing his laughter and love across generations, leaving behind a legacy that will forever be cherished by his family and friends.
Mike dedicated 36 years of his professional life to KABC TV station in Los Angeles, where he served as the Director of Operations until his retirement in 2017. He earned a bachelor's degree from Jacksonville State University, which laid the groundwork for a successful and fulfilling career that allowed him to touch many lives. Throughout his years in broadcasting, he exhibited the same gregarious and thoughtful nature that defined his personal life.
Mike was not just a passionate professional; he was a devoted family man. He is survived by his beloved wife of 35 years, Patti Erwin Norman, who stood by him through thick and thin. Together, they nurtured a large and vibrant family, raising nine children: Lindsey (Marco) DeLoera, Stephanie Norman, Emily (Andrew) Bell, Ashley Norman, Amy (Alex) Le, Adam Norman, Austin Norman, Timothy Norman, and Andrew (Jessica) Norman. Each child carries a piece of his heart and a reflection of his nurturing spirit. Mike reveled in his role as a father, taking immense pride in watching his children thrive and grow. His 18 grandchildren were a source of immense joy, and he cherished the time spent with them, ensuring that each moment was filled with love and laughter. His beloved sister, Lori Norman.
Those who knew Mike best can easily recount the warmth of his personality. He was laid back, easy-going, and had a fantastic sense of humor that lit up any room. His knack for telling jokes, often laughing at his own punch lines, made him a delightful companion. Friends and family will fondly remember the joy he brought to gatherings, his thoughtful gestures, and the way he made everyone feel at home in his presence.
Mike’s life journey came to a close on February 8, 2025, at his residence. He is missed deeply by his family who carry his memory in their hearts. He was also preceded in death by his parents, John Lamar Norman, Sr. and Eleanor Ann Gaines Norman; his brother, John Lamar Norman, Jr.; and his twin brother, Mark Norman. Their spirits remain intertwined with the love he cultivated during his lifetime.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday February 22, at 11:00 a.m. at Crest Lawn Cemetery in Cookeville, TN, where family and friends are invited to pay their respects and celebrate the life of a remarkable man who touched so many lives with his generosity, warmth, and humor. Pastor Scott Parkison will officiate. Mike Norman may have departed from this world, but his laughter, love, and light will shine brightly in the hearts of those who knew him forever.
